Letter to Ministers of Karnataka

Your Exellency,

This letter is to bring to your notice the assaults and violence by forces related to Suvarna tv channel on the Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, leading to the immediate hospitalization of a brahmachari and multiple injuries to many other ashramites and devotees. Further, to bring to your notice about how the media is continuously airing false news about the turn of events.
It is to be noted that on 2nd April 2012, a Bangalore City Civil Court passed an interim injunction order against 9 media houses including TV9, Suvarna 24x7, Kasthuri, Udaya, Janashri, Public TV, E TV, Samaya 24x7 and News 9 restraining them from exhibiting, broadcasting or telecasting of programmes, reports, clippings or visuals referring to Nithyananda in a false or derogatory manner.
Inspite of the court orders, there has been a persistent and malicious telecast by Suvarna channel from 3rd June, 2012 onwards, of a woman who identified herself as ‘Aarti Rao’ and accused Nithyananda of sexually abusing her for 5 years between 2005 and 2010. The program was telecast once on 3rd June and twice on 4th June. On 5th June, Suvarna brought 20 women to the gates of the Bidadi ashram and made them demonstrate and called it a dharna by ‘Women’s organizations’. Who these “Women’s Organizations” are is neither clear nor known.
On 7th June 2012 in the press meet addressed by Paramahamsa Nithyananda, 20 individuals from the Kannada channel Suvarna led by Suvarna bureau in chief H. Ajit tried to illegally serve a summons to Nithyananda. A few hours later, Suvarna channel’s OB van arrived at around 6 pm at the ashram gates, along with about 50 individuals armed with weapons, calling themselves the ‘Karnataka Navanirmana Sena’, who began raising slogans against Paramahamsa Nithyananda. The ‘Karunada Sena’ also appeared to be involved with them. When ashramites went to inquire about the matter, about 10 of the thugs scaled the locked gates of the ashram, entered the premises illegally and first assaulted Sri Mayatitananda, the brahmachari handling the ashram camera, and damaged the camera to ensure that no video recording could take place. They then pushed the ashram administrator Sri Atmaprabhananda to the ground and assaulted him with a huge stone, causing severe head injuries and profuse bleeding. He had to be hospitalised immediately. The other ashramites who rushed to their aid were also manhandled and abused, including women ashramites. The Bidadi police who arrived on the spot took no action even as the ashramites were facing life threats. NO arrests were made by the police.
On 8th June, in a press meet addressed by the ashramites of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, a few people from Suvarna channel started abusing the ashramites barely 15-20mins after the meeting stared and started committing acts of violence in the hall itself, picking up metal stands and waving them at people. They shouted that ashramites should be speaking in Kannada. It is to be noted that while the main address was in English, there was a Kannada translation of the press meet ongoing. They were violent to everyone in the hall and had to be pushed out of the hall for security reasons. At the main gate some rowdies were ready to attack the ashramites and had caused some damage to the ashram property already. They were calling out for Nithyananda and appeared to have the purpose of attacking Swami Nithyananda himself. They had to be controlled by the police who had been called in the meantime, and had to be pushed outside the gate.
A few hours later, the police arrived at the ashram and arrested about 16 ashramites and volunteers without giving any reason or showing any arrest warrants. Amongst those arrested were some sannyasinis also. An FIR was also filed against eight ashramites on completely false grounds of violence (See youtube videos, where none of the ashramites or volunteers has been violent, and all have been under attack by Suvarna channel rowdies).
On 11th June, several newspapers and TV channels (including Suvarna channel and TV9) published/aired false news on their websites and TV news shows that an arrest warrant has been issued against Nithyananda, distorting the statement of the Chief Minster, which says they have “ordered a probe” into the matter.
We plead to you to consider our plea on humanitarian grounds, since so far there has been no legal action against those who caused the violence or Suvarna channel itself. We seek justice from you for all the property damage and injuries caused to innocent people in the ashram.
Breaking into private property and assaulting people for any reason is downright violence and in this case seems to be aimed at disrupting the peace and functioning of the spiritual organization of Swami Paramahamsa Nithyananda. No media is reporting the events as they happened and are misrepresenting and distorting the facts, which are very clearly visible in the videos taken on the spot.
Please consider this plea as really urgent and of high importance. If peaceful spiritual organizations like the Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam cannot function freely in this country and are constantly attacked and abused by rowdies and gundas, it is not only a threat to the spiritual organization, but should be considered a threat to the peace of our whole nation.
We write to you, the Government of India, for restoring our peace. You are the only hope we have. Please protect us and grant us justice.
