Steps to be followed:

 

  1. VEERAASANA
  2. NAADA KUMBHAKA
  3. TRINETRA KUMBHAKA
  4. TRISHOOLA KUMBHAKA

 

1. VEERAASANA

 

GHERANDA SAMHITA, UPADESHA 2, VERSE 17

 

TECHNIQUE

 

1.     Sit on the floor
2.     Fold left knee and sit on that heel as shown in the photograph
3.     Place right foot on the left thigh
4.     Concentrate on the tip of the nose. Keep your hands on your thighs in chin mudra
5.     Inhale and exhale in a relaxed way for a few seconds to let your body settle with this muscle tension

 

IN VEERAASANA, NEXT-

 

2. NAADA KUMBHAKA

 

TECHNIQUE

 

  1. Sit in the same posture
  2. Now chant the sacred sound “OM” slowly in a low tone
  3. Elongate the chant as much as possible
  4. Feel the sound produced from the navel and travelling through the heart, throat and brow centers and reaching the crown of your head.
  5. Exhale slowly with Omkara
  6. Do this 21 times.

 

IN VEERAASANA, NEXT-

 

3. TRINETRA KUMBHAKA

 

KUMBHAKA PADDATHI, VERSE 192

 

TECHNIQUE

 

  1. Inhale through the left nostril 
  2. Hold the breath as long as you can judiciously 
  3. Without exhalation, inhale through the right nostril  Hold the breath as long as you can judiciously 
  4. Again without exhaling, inhale through both the nostrils 
  5. Hold the breath as long as you can judiciously 
  6. Now exhale through both the nostrils slowly 
  7. Do this 21 times

 

4. TRISHOOLA KUMBHAKA

 

KUMBHAKA PADDATHI, VERSE 193

 

TECHNIQUE

 

  1. Inhale through the nostrils and also through the mouth simultaneoulsy
  2. Hold breath as long as you can, judiciously
  3. When you can’t hold anymore, slowly exhale and relax
  4. Do this 21 times
